UW Open Science and Scholarship Policy
Dear Readers,
On July 31, 2025, the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Professor Alojzy Z. Nowak, signed an ordinance introducing the Open Science and Scholarship Policy at the university. The document defines the principles of open access to the results of research conducted at the University of Warsaw—both scientific publications and research data.
Along with the enactment of the policy, two institutional repositories were launched:
- The University of Warsaw Scientific Publications Repository (ReIn UW), managed by the University of Warsaw Library (BUW);
- The University of Warsaw Research Data Repository (DB UW), managed by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM).
As of February 1, 2026, every scientific publication authored by a person affiliated with the University of Warsaw should be deposited in the UW Institutional Repository. Research data should be deposited in the UW Research Data Repository or in a trusted disciplinary repository.
The Open Science and Scholarship Policy increases access to knowledge, enhances the visibility and citation impact of research, supports transparency and the reuse of scientific results. It also facilitates the management of publication output, promotes good data management practices, and strengthens scientific collaboration.
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the guide to the key principles of the Open Science and Scholarship Policy of the University of Warsaw, as well as the training offer concerning the policy and the use of the new repositories, provided by BUW and ICM.
We also recommend reviewing the Rector’s ordinance introducing the Open Science and Scholarship Policy at the University of Warsaw.
